Sclerotherapy side effects

So… A lot has happened since I’ve last updated my profile (like getting my thumb amputated) and I need to update but I’ve been undergoing another series of sclerotherapy treatments ever 6 weeks. I just had number 3 of this series about a week ago. I have two very dark spots as well as a very sore area of skin that is now developing blisters around the edges. It’s extremely sensitive. I’ve sent a picture to my doctor and he said that it’s common and similar to a 2nd degree burn and that if my skin becomes necrotic to put a bandage over it. I am apparently more concerned than my doctor… Especially because the two very dark spots are on top of a massive aneurysm on my wrist. Anything similar happen to anyone else? Any advice? I have had a couple of other side effects of treatments but not like this.

Hi Heather. There is a search box located on the top right hand corner of this page. You might want to type in the word blister and see if there are other posts. Best wishes and prayers are on the way!

Heather, you may also try searching “Sclerotherapy”. A couple of pics showed up. Let’s hear from the group. Anyone?

that's what my leg looked like way before I lost a muscle do to necrosis, I would have another doctor look at it, is it very painful with a burning and or popping sensation? the blisters will turn into an open wound then you will have to go to a wound doctor.....

I certainly wouldn't just bandage it and hope it gets better. I've had to deal with necrosis a couple of years ago. The skin began to turn black and had to be removed. Lost part of my lower lip.
Could you tell me about your hand? I have an AVM on my right hand below my thumb, palm side. It's been treated twice but since the AVM is entwined with the muscle they have not been able to reduce the lump.

Hi Heather, I see you've received some helpful replies and I have a member friend who had her thumb amputated during 2014 so she was finally pain free. I wish you well.

It’s quite painful where I can see blisters forming under the skin. It’s very sensitive including the surrounding healthy looking skin. I hope that the darkest spots won’t open. I don’t really need that aneurysm to burst it’s massive and an artery too so I don’t exactly want an emergency situation with bleeding. I’ve had a bleed once before… 1cm hole in my vein… My bathroom looked like a scene from Dexter. I guess I should get a referral to a wound doctor sooner rather than later. I live no where near the interventional radiologists or the plastic surgeon so that doesn’t help.

the first pic is after the blisters popped, the second pic is after I saw a wound specialist, all they can do for me is keep debrieing it,i have a lot more pictures but they are really gross, and all this was after the radiologist said "the blisters are normal" I lost my vastis lateralus muscle..... demand a referral if you need to, and don't hesitate to go to the er if the pain is too much, that's one way how I got the right doctors to take care of me before I lost my whole leg.

Hi, I had a horrible burn like that on the bottom of my foot after the second sclerotherapy. It has been almost 8 years now and there's still pain on the side of my foot and feels like a ball or mass of skin there. As other people have said those blisters will turn to open sores.

Get Duo-derm from the CVS or any pharmacy, that was the only thing that helped me. If I could find pics I will post them. God Bless.
