Epilepsy with a definite or specific cause for the seizures.
My son developed this type of epilepsy after a bleed and two craniotomies.
He has a kind of tissue in his brain that was formed after all the problems.
I wonder who has the same problem. Thanks.
hey… i developed frontal lobe epilepsy after I had a craniotimy 2 and a half years ago to remove a avm that ruptured… They are quite different then other seizures… I have a de ja vu like feelin followd by starin and hot flashes… I also have had several grand mal seizures where i stopped breathing… What symptoms does your son have?
Hi Michelle, my son developed seizures 15 months after his second craniotomy. His seizures are more like absence seizures. What medications are you taking? My son is taking two, Depakote and Lamitor.
Thank you Barbara, I had no idea this was quite common.
I am on vimpat, and lamictal… I have absence seizures also… thats my de ja vu feeling and starin off ones… how old is your son? can he tell you when there going to happen? I can feel the absence seizures almost comin on… Its a weird deep gut feeling and a weird feelin that your not in your body almost… Its hard to describe… The docs tell me its from dead scar tissue around my surgical site, and thats how I got them they think…
Erica, I have an appointment with an epilepsy neuro doctor, but not until October. I’ve never been told they the seizures I’ve had a due to scar tissue, but I will ask when I see her. I take Keppra and have only had 3 seizures (1 grand mal and 2 Partial) since my craniotomy 3 1/2 years ago. You may want to check out www.epilepsy.com. If I receive any information from the new doctor, I’ll let everyone on the Network know. My prayers are with your Son.
Hi Michelle, it is nice you telling me what you feel, so I can compare with what my son tells me. He has strange feeling that sometimes is difficult for him to explain. He is 11 years old. He feels that his body is turning off. He is completely aware when he feels this. Yesterday we had an appointment with his doctor, she does not belive he is having seizures in these cases, because he continue to see and hear things. I tried to convince her that it is seizures, one kind of.
Do the doctors tell you the scar tissue can stop causing seizures? Of course after a long time being under controll?
One doctor told me the medication is for life.
Another one told me he can stop medication if the are kept under control over years…
Thanks
Hi Louisa, thank you!
the scar tissue is visible on MRI exam. Maybe you don´t have it. It is nice to read your seizures are under control. I will wait the news from you new doctor, hopefully he will tell you just good things.
when i have my seizures, I can hear, see and feel things… The doc has told me this wasn’t epilepsy also. but my neuro surgeon says they are… I just stare off and get the out of body experience almost like if my whole body had been shot up with novacaine, and if i had laughin gas on for a while… Its a deep down gut feelin and yes it is very hard to describe… I pray for your son, i know what he is going through and at his age its got to be hard… I had alot of things taken away that i can’t do anymore, but his young life is just begining and i pray they get this fixed before it causes life long affects! I am here if you ever need anyone to talk to… Cause they are confusing and scary…
Hi Michelle, thank you for sharing your experience. What life long affects it can cause? Do you have any? His doctor told me this kind of seizures and not dangerous and bring no damage to the brain.
This may or may not help you but check out this website if you get a chance. http://planetthrive.com/2009/08/neural-therapy/ Its basically saying that if you treat the scar tissue on the outside of your head or even the trigger points on your scalp that it improves electircal acticity in the brain. May be helpful with seizures because they are caused by disruption of electrical activity. Just a thought. Hope it is useful.
