Stomach problems

I had my AVM about 6 weeks ago. y left side is most affected. I'm having stomach pains and a general uncomfortable feeling in my stomach. I have difficulty swallowing. I know that swallowing my be a symptom of the bleed but can the stomach
discomfort from the damaged part of my brain?

www.stroke.org

The nsafactsheet does say that stroke can damage the part of the brain that controls the muscles of the bowel and bladder.

My left side is also the side effected, I never thought anything of the cramps and pain.

If it weren’t for you I never would have looked it up. Thanks.

Hello, I am sorry for what you are going through. I had my avm removed less than three weeks ago and my left side affected as well. I did not suffer any effects of eating/swallowing like you. hugs to you for your recovery. I would follow up with a internal medicine doctor to rule out any other condition. Sorry not much answer to your question, but want to send well wishes your way, Hugs to you and your recovery.

My next MRI is in the first week end November. MY AVM is in the basil ganglia. which is very deep. I don't know what method he will choose to get rid of it, but where it's at, I really am apprehensive about someone digging around my brain.

Thanks for the hugs.

Did you have to have a shunt put in? I had problems with the shunt they put in and had to get it redone a couple of times.

No My doctor has a "wait and see" approach. I feel like a ticking time bomb

Hi I have an off and on pain in the right side off my stomach I had my AVM surgery in my right frontle lobe no difficulty swallowing thanks for the info everyone

My son had an AVM rupture and his neurologist said it is not uncommom to have stomach, swallowing problems after a bleed. He has acid reflux and takes a med for it.

You need to have this evaluated. Could be a result from medications and could be serious.

That is where I am now. My bleed happened 10 years ago. It was inoperable so the best course if action they recommended was radio static therapy. One strong beam of radiation and it will shrink, die and disappear in a years time. 10 years later and the AVM has not shrunk, died or disappeared. I had a shunt put in because the cerebral fluid was not draining. The tube was inserted down into my abdomen. After a few weeks I was having pain in my stomach around my appendix. They went in and found nothing wrong with my appendix but a ball of cerebral fluid built up in my abdomen. They just moved the tube over onto the top of my lung. It wasn’t long before it built up again. Had to go back in the hospital where they figured it would be best if they went into a vein in my neck that runs directly into my heart and disperses into my blood stream. I don’t know if this has anything to do with it, but when I get my massive headaches I can almost feel the fluid drain and it is like a shot of adrenaline. It might happen once a day or all night long. When it happens all night it feels like my heart is pumping syrup through my veins. But if you haven’t had a shunt, that would not be your problem, so I would ask questions at my doctors office. Good luck!!!
