Suggestions on what pain meds work for people that do not cause vomitting

Hello
I was wondering what pain meds work for people here for head pain that do not cause nausea-
I may have a baby tummy but after my angio/embolism procedure out of the hospital I can not seem to take Tylenol Codeine or Percocet without severe nausea

Thank you
Angela

Hello GinaL
Thank you I will ask my pain neuro about these meds. How long have you been taking them?
Angela

I also get severe nausea when I've taken Percoset or any other narcotic pain meds. I decided I'd rather be in pain then have to sit on the floor with my head over the toilet all day. But I wish there was a pain med that would work for me. It's hard to wake up everyday and be in pain.

Lortab worked great for me.

Hey Angela,

While no one likes to throw up, nausea is a very common side effect here. But understand we're not doctors and certainly can't even recommend medications or pain meds though many are taking them. To get around this, I'd say talk to your doctor about your nausea and maybe he or she can prescribe something else for you. Best of luck with this and I hope you're feeling well. :)

Hello
I am working with my pain neuro but she keeps trying different drugs. Now she has me on a blood pressure pill that is supposed to help with pain and sleep. I took it late afternoom yesterday I did not go to bed until 630am....since our doctors are still practicing medicine and what we have is rare I was just looking to see what works in general for people here so I can run it by my pain Neuro who called me "special" this week...when I asked her if what I was feeling was normal....:)
Angela

Thank you Kevinw- I will ask my doctor about this drug
Angela

Hi Kim
That is exactly what I have been doing I think its far worse to have severe vomiting all day I have been using ice packs but my pain neuro said I have to try cause she said being in constant pain I need to have a rest and she fears even when I should not be in pain my brain will just be firing pain messages anyway.
I am going to a doctor today who also studied at Stanford who does acupuncture with stim. So hopefully that works and also my pain neuro is checking with my insurance to see if I can have a nerve block in my head. which may give some short term relief. She also wants to do 30 shots of botox but I am afraid of botox...yuck!

Hi GinaL
Thank you I will try the Excederine Migraine that would be great if that works! I am going back to my pain neuro next week so I will let you know what she says and what she gives me
Thank you again

Angela, I understand you asking completely. Thanks for the honesty. Maybe it's time to get a new doc considering the current called you "special" this week. Somehow, that just doesn't sit well with me. Sometimes we teach the doctors things when it should be the other way around. There is a bright red box on the main page you can click to take you to a discussion about some great doctor recommendations. Best of luck and let me know if I can help you in any way. :)

Hello
I went to see an dr who does acupuncture today and he called me "complex and special" then asked about when I had a TIA...???? OMG these doctors need to get sick before they start to practice medicine. My pain doctor called me today to recommend a new drug so hopefully it will work.
Thank you for all comments!

Stadol #1, but expect funny looks if you ask for it by name! It is the best of the best! Works great on pain and a killer buzz! But it is a dirty secret! I had a lot of vomiting trouble with traditional meds but this one is All good, but you will get stares if you know its name-- have fun with it!

Cheers,
nicole

Thank you Nicole L- I will add this one to my list- They just called in something called tramdol if that does not work I will ask about this one
Angela

Hi. My son gets headaches that make him throw up too. We use Tylenol, Tylenol w/coding, Lortab( all different strengths), Percoset(all different strengths), &I morphine. Lortab 5 works the best for him without him throwing up. We also have the anti-nausea med that dissolves on your tongue. I will say that nobody with an AVM should use any over the counter med that has ibuprofen in it though. It acts as a blood thinner which would be disastrous if you had something more serious going on.on especially if you have to take mess daily for headaches. Our neurosurgeon, pediatrician, Neurologist, and hematologist told us that.

Hello Erin Lyn
Thank you for letting me know about the ibuprofen. I just started taking tumeric tablets that are supposed to help with memory, inflammation and blood pressure. But I guess I better talk to my doctor. It was so strange I was able to take the Tylenol with codeine last year but even since my angio/embolism I can not no matter how much I eat before I take it. Then the doctors gave me Percocet and the same reaction. Tonight I took half a tramadol but its not doing anything. Tomorrow I will try a whole one. I did get the anti nausea drug that dissolves on your tongue and they increased the dosage. I cant take morphine and that has been forever, My mom and sister are the same for that drug. I will ask about Lortab 5 if this tramadol does not work.
Thank you again for your suggestions. Maybe with our head issues we just get sick to our stomachs.
Thank you
Angela

I like tramadol ER for my pain management. I use the ER type. It has a low adiction rate.

Just FYI/ good short reading
