Surgery is over

All i can say is the surgery was a success and Dr. Spetzler is simply amazing. not only did he tell my husband that the cavernoma was deeper than originally suspected. but he got it all out without any major deficit. It ssimply amazing.. Since my left side was aready numb when i went in, its even more so now, but its only temporarly. I am to have 18 days of inpatient rehab here at the hopital, relearn how to walk and be independant, and a tiny optic nerve was palaryse during the surgery and i have to hear a eye patch (see picture) but it is SO little compared to living knowing that atany day, you can have a major bleead or very disabling stoke. Despite the
surgery pain, the eye patch and the relearn how to walk, this is amazing and so much easier/better than i ever imagined. I kew it would not be peace of cake, but i also knew that never worry about this ever again was going to be life changing. I am in Arizona, St Joseph hospital, Phoenix, if anybody struggle and would like to come talk to me. All I can saw is if Dr. Spetzler could remove my cavernoma deep into the brainstem adn still have me fonctionning and happy, he can do miracles on everyone. Do not hesitate to hae surgery from that man if he already offered. He is honest with his ability adn his whole team is amazing. Of course, i was scared to death.. I woke up and could barelly see and the pain was horrendous but i wiggled my t oes and i knew all would be ok. I was told my eyes woul bet better and my dizziness would go away too. and most of all, ALL the cavernoma is OUT.

That's awesome Dandelion. I've been following you on Facebook and your progress is simply amazing, as well as your attitude.I think what you have also shown people is the importance of finding an expert in AVMs or Cavernomas. The surgeries are all tricky and it is an absolute must to get the best! Your gratitude, faith and attitude in the whole process has been beautiful to watch and you are so fortunate to have so many friends and family members rooting for you. If I am ever in Cincinnati, I am looking you up:-) You deserve one big hug!!

ditto on all that Debra said - isn't she just gorgeous? Now - back to you. For someone who lives on the other side of the planet from you, I know of your surgeon and his team, because the best AVM team in Australia base their analysis, procedures and practices on Spetzlers work. I heard your surgeons name mentioned on the day I met my neurosurgeon.
I am so happy for you, your husband and your beautiful young family.
Take care. Tone

Yaaaaaaaaaaay! I echo Patti's sentiment (and everyone else) in that I am so happy for you! I told you he was awesome. Ok, I wasn't the first to say that. But he deserves much applause (as do you). Take good care and have a speedy recovery! :J

Yes, Dr. Spetzler is the "Man with the Gift" so happy belated birthday. This is your new birthday! Gift of Life is beyond words..thank you for the update you have been in my heart and mind, but I knew you had the courage to not let this disease live your life. Your love and courage for your children and your husband and family drove this bus directly to Dr. Spetzler and WOW what a moment of new beginnings. Remember baby steps always.

Blessing, Peace, Joy and Laughter replace Fear, Sorrow,Sadness and Confusion. Pat yourselves on the back for having the courage to believe again and listen to those that have gone before you. It takes a village. My angel was Patti G. and I trusted her words and guidance and everyone else on this site with my life. They didn't fail me..blessing to you and your family.

So glad to hear it! Rest up and recover!

I am so glad that the surgery was a success. Hearing your story has given me hope for myself since my AVM is in a much less complex area of my brain then yours was! Dr. Sptzler is an amazing neurovascular surgeon and i am so glad that you went to him to have your surgery. He does work wonders

And I agree with Tony, after having brain surgery you look amazing. I wish I could look that good on a normal given day! And I think the eye patch looks awesome...kinda like the girl in Kill Bill ;).

You are in my thoughts and prayers every single day!

O WOW GOD BLESS!!!! When I hear storys like yours it give me hope for my daughter. I soo wish some day I can have a neurosurgen tell me that my daughter's deep seeded AVM in the brain stem can be taken out and never have to worry about any more bleeds. My daughter is now 13 years old and the only thing that she has been able to have done is gamma knife when she was 8 years old. She has had 4 bleeds, 1 when she was 6 years old, 1 when she was 8 years old and last year she had 2 bleeds (Feb & Sept.) Now her neurosurgeon tells me he recommends to leave the AVM alone and do nothing. I feel soooooo desparate and fustrated.
