Spent July on first trips in years. So was surprised when flying west to northern California to see my son and family I had a days lapse then a major headache. Had to use the triptans. Then two weeks later road tripped to north of Salt Lake City Utah and again a day after arrival another major headache. Use of triptans again. I live at 200 feet above sea level and was at least 7-9,000 feet above in Utah. Does anyone have experieces like that? Were they related to flying west or sea level?
Plane trips have been really difficult for some of our members, as well as trips to high altitudes. Once you know your triggers, then you know what to avoid.
Hello SGS
Sorry to hear about your head pain and travel
This happens to me every time My doctor told me to take frova which is a migraine med at least 4 hours before flight time and I also take a baby aspirin every day the week prior to flying-
I did read about another drug for altitude problems but I have not spoken to my doctor about it
http://www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-6753-Diamox+Oral.aspx?drugid=6753&drugname=Diamox+Oral
I also take the next day off work cause I know I am not going to feel well at all the next day so I just plan to rest the next day-

SGS, aspirin could pose a significant bleeding risk to you because your avm is still active. Aspirin is generally contraindicated for active avms.
I never really liked flying but i find after my operation i hate it even more...God bless just try and be strong
Yes this is correct Aspirin actually thins the blood and is not to be used during active AVM's....God bless
