So on Friday 21st July I went to Sheffield and underwent my gamma knife surgery
Firstly I really want to thank all the awesome staff as I am not a easy person when in hospital as hard as I try but they were fab I was give two nurses on arrival they stayed with me all day
We started with the dreaded fitting of head cage I don’t like this bit
Then came a mri followed buy angiogram then about a two hour wait while they worked out my treatment plan then off to gamma machine I picked 80’s music to listen to and into gamma I went I have to be honest I feel asleep in middle of my treatment for a while when all done l assisted out and the head cage taken off so fast I couldn’t believe it I had to send another two hours laying flat on my back due to the angiogram but then had a sandwich rested and went home following day it’s now day three after treatment and apart from four small holes and a dyer need to wash my hair I feel ok I think

Fantastic to hear all went so well! The nurses ‘et al’ are so vital to a positive health care experience. I was treated so well by all staff during my gamma as well, amazingly caring people. I agree, it is sure nice when they remove the “halo”! Take Care, John.

Pleased you had a really positive experience. I’ve had two gamma knife sessions at Sheffield and agree all the staff on the stereotactic radio surgery unit are brilliant. Enjoy that first post surgery hair wash - it feels so good.
Well done Ally! I had the same experience at Sheffield in 2019…fantastic team there. Hope you recover well. I felt a bit odd for a few weeks, and got quite anxious but it passed and I had no lasting effects. I think maybe it was down to the whole stress of diagnosis/bleed/treatment. Anyway, all the best.
