Does anyone out here have a Vagus Nerve Stimulator? I had one put in back in Oct of 2010 and I'm not really sure about this thing other than it is like a pacemaker. The wires in my neck are attached to the Vagus nerve. I was told Not to go in the sun or stay out of hot tubs. I live at the beach so how the heck am i gonna do that. I wasnt sure if they meant just the device or what. I"m still waiting to hear since my Neurologist had no clue. My family dr was going to call the surgeon to get the info for me. I was hoping there was someone out there that has had this implant besides me!
VNS is often implanted for seizure control. Even if that's not the purpose of your implant, you can find a lot of good info about living with VNS on the Epilepsy Foundation's site and discussion boards.
Well on the plus side at least you won't have to worry about skin cancer!

My Mother is a sun Goddess and so far so good. She is 70 and still loving the beach. I bought an umbrella so I can go and cover my head and chest. I have not been to the beach yet but it's still early in the season.
I have it for my seizures. Thank you I did finally find the info I needed.
I cant allow the implant or wires to get hot or it can damage the tissue around it, ugh.
