Avm and marijuana

Does anyone know if there has been a medical investigation about AVM's and marijuana ?, If there has please email me and or please put a blog on the discussion, Thanks.

Don’t know of any medical investigation but I doubt it can hurt…Doesn’t marijuana calm u and slow your heart rate…I’m not 100% sure

We will never find any studies giving pros or cons about smoking pot with an AVM. They just don’t study it. You can find lots of studies saying it is bad for everyone and none that really show any truth if it has any benefits. I had smoked for 12+ years before my AVM was discovered. I would bet it also the safety has something to do with how your AVM is treated.

I’m going to come from the view that so many other medical options are out their. The prescription medics have a more set consistency in doses and are way more safe then buying from some street dealer. You never know what all is mixed in with the weed when you get it from a dealer that is only after your money.

Personally I wouldn’t recommend it as it messes with your head and as a result could then cause seizures, increase heart rate leading to bleeding etc. Don’t do it weed isn’t good anyway.

You might check the website of NORML to see if they have any such studies listed, and if they don’t they still might be able to tell you if they’re aware of any. http://www.norml.org/

As far as other studies regarding the use of pot, there are of course dozens and dozens that tell us it just isn’t good for us. And then, there are the studies that have tons of evidence showing just the opposite.

Outside of inhaling the smoke itself, I don’t believe for one minute any of us would, or could possibly, have any adverse affects from it. Pot is excellent for having a calming affect, for helping with sleep disturbances and for helping with poor appetite, among many other positive affects. And if one is bothered by inhaling the smoke, has asthma or other lung issues, or just doesn’t want to inhale smoke, the marijuana can always be used in various foods - brownies, spaghetti sauce, etc. and eaten. There are also nebulizer-type machines (can’t think of what they’re called right now).

Maybe talk with your doctors about it too, and see what they say and if they know about any such studies. However, because there seems to be few studies regarding AVMs, particularly those that aren’t in the brain, I think you’ll be hard pressed to find any.

Also Sherry - if the state you live in has a medical marijuana program you might check to see if they have any information.

I qualify for the medical marijuana program in the state I live in, though I’m not on it. If you decided to medicate with pot and you qualify for your state’s program at least you would be assured you’re getting medical grade pot and not have to be concerned about what could possibly be in the stuff you’d otherwise get off the street.

Good point.

I have ongoing headaches, and have tried numerous over the counter drugs for it, and none seem to do the job that the narcotic laced drugs do. Only problem is, I don’t like to take them because of the side effects.

I have been wanting to try Marijuana, since this is a state that allows it for medical purposes, (provided you have a prescription for it). Problem is my doctor won’t write one for it, and I don’t know where or how to get it.

When you stop to think about it, it is a natural growing herb that doesn’t have to be modified to use it. The poppy has to be modified and processed to obtain Morphine, and other narcotics.

Good point. Add it to your food. let us all know how it work out. Just don’t pick up that street dealer stuff.

I couldnt tell you about marijuana use after having an avm rupture, but I can speak of it after having a craniotomy to remove one and the subsequent effects of said surgery such as seveer headaches and siezures. I can tell you from personal expieriance that it does help with my headaches, and from what I understand it can also be bennificial on helping to control siezures. I have never tried to use it as a sole controll for my siezures. I have read that it can induce siezures, however I have never expierianced one due to marijuana use. Allthough, I am sure in some cases it could. Unfortunately I do not live in a medical marijuana state and have to procure mine on the black market. I do not reccomend anyone to take the chances I do, but I figure if it helps, then it helps. If anyone has any questions you feel I may be able to help you with, feel free to ask!

Thanks for your reply Mike:

I have heard so many stories about how it has helped people with cancer and other ills, I can’t understand why the Federal Government doesn’t go ahead and make it legal, and then like alcohol, and tobacco, slap a big tax on it. That might solve the crime problem as well.

Th largest opponent to legalization of medical cannabis is MONEY! As is with general legalization, The last thing pharmecutical companies want is a cheap and at times free alternative to thier allready highly profitable and disturbingly legal and offtimes highly abused drugs. Large pharmectuical companies constantly lobby against any attempts at proposed legislation that could change marijuana’s DEA scheduling as a class 1 drug which denies any federaly legal studies into theraputic uses of cannabis.
If one were to dig deep enough into the opponents of legaliztion you would see that there is a highly lucrative buisness in keeping it illegal. Ie prizatized prizons, chemical companies, law enforcement, DEA, and various political groups just to name a few. Ok, off the soapbox now. Lol

I live in California where prop A19 is on the ballot to make it legal for those that are over 21 it would change the medical 215 now. My son has AVM and I and my mom have siezures it does help with siezures and headaches and pain in general. The only reason why it would cause siezures if its laced with other drugs. Pot has less side affects than pills and trust me I start off the day taking 9 pills I hate it so does my mom and she takes alot at night to. Im for medical Marijuna. Oh and if your head hurts so bad u r crying and think u r going to die that type of pain brings on siezures!

Thanks Sarah for your input. Maybe we all should put a full court press on our Politicians to make some Federal changes.

I can certainly understand why pot will probably never be approved by the Federal Government. Just think of the money drug companies would lose out on.

Here in Washington State, if you have a prescription for marijuana, you are authorized to raise a certain number of plants for your own use, or you can designate someone else to raise it for you.

But still the U.S. Government will not approve, and with the drug companies shuffling money to our well paid Congressmen, and Senators, it will probably never be approved. Maybe if we can vote them out and try a new set, it would put enough fear in the new ones that they might act approvingly toward their constiutents.

How many of our Congressmen, Congresswomen, and Senators have become millionaires while in office? Time to clean House!!!

I agree it’s time to clean house well California was the first state I do believe that voted for medical pot then Oregon and if this passes other states will follow as they did before. If this new law goes into law u can grow pot on private land in a 25 square foot area can go to your local store and buy 1 oz at a time and they will tax it like alcohol. Parents this info is for you you are not protected from cps so don’t do it around your kids and u can’t be driving high but unless the can do a test if u r or not high I dont know how they will enforce that one. I’ve been pills for medical conditions for a long time and its started to take a toll on my liver I went through a liver biopsy last year this time it was no fun and some of my meds caused my issue. Im tired of taking all these meds and they havent worked for my son. I think there should be a study on this hmmm I guess i’ll add that to my list of things to ask the doctor.

I say if it helps, use it. It seems only right that anything that would improve our quality of life should be allowed. Afterall, a higher quality of life after an AVM is paramount.

Ok I use to be some what chiled about medical use of Marijuana but this past week my wife was at conference for therapist and they were going over drug interactions with the brain. They had this new type of MRI brain scans that show how healty brain look VS brains that use drugs the worse one was from Marijuana use even medical grade. This has canged my view on this totaly. Marujuana does huge amounts of damage to the brain. We all have damage because of our AVM’s don’t make it worse. The brain on Marujuana had the most extesive damage and they are finding a veary large number of people are having seriouse metal issues because of medical grade Marijiuana the scan were done on control groups. This has changed my point of view on this. The FDA is going to be reviewing Maruijiuana use because of this new study. br />

The scan they had were better then this link that I will post.
