I have had AVM since I was 12 years old

I am now 28 years old and have had AVM since I was 12. I experienced seizures and was in a coma for 3 months, and half of my body suffered a stroke. Because I’m from Indonesia and medical treatment was very expensive back then, my family let the disease progress without any surgical intervention from the hospital.

Now, after getting married, I feel like I’ve failed. I am working, and my desire to recover is growing stronger. In December 2024, I finally went for a hospital check-up, and the result showed:

“There is a vascular lesion with a nidus in the right parietal region measuring about 2.1 x 2.7 x 3.3 cm, with bleeding from the right anterior cerebral artery and drainage into the right vein of Trolard.”

My left leg still cannot move, and I walk with a limp.

Until now, I haven’t undergone embolization because I’m afraid, and I feel the treatment using the BPJS (Indonesia’s national health insurance) isn’t good enough. Based on what I’ve seen, no one in Indonesia has truly been cured of AVM through embolization.

Who proposed you embolization? I think that by your description craniotomy is needed

From what you’ve described, it seems you were diagnosed with a brain AVM (Arteriovenous Malformation) on the right side of your brain since age 12. A doctor once recommended embolization, but it hasn’t been done due to limited medical facilities. Fortunately, you haven’t had any recurrent symptoms since then, and your MRA (Magnetic Resonance Angiography) results have remained stable. This is a unique case and needs to be approached carefully.

“It was the doctor who recommended embolization, but I have not undergone the procedure because the medical facilities in my country are not adequate. Since I was 12 years old until now, the AVM in the right side of my brain has never recurred, and the MRA results confirm this.”

This is definitely a delicate situation, however you may wish to explore options for treatment in another country?

I know it may not be cheap in doing so but maybe if you plead your case, someone will assist you or lead you to the right person somewhere that may help… God bless!
