Hi Sheila. You may want to join the subgroup for members with extremity AVMs: http://www.avmsurvivors.org/group/extremityavms. You can also do an advanced search under the members tab. You can type in leg, knee, hip, etc. and you will see a list of memebers with AVMs in those locations.
Hi Sheila,
I know very little about leg AVMs but, I do know something about how the nerves run through the body. So I'm going to guess that your avm is putting pressure or effecting those particular nerves. Without knowing more about your avm - I'm guessing it may be swollen (the blood vessels enlarged) or its coming from improper blood flow in that region. Meaning - lack of oxygen to that area.
Before I had upper back surgery (years ago), the only pain I had was in my groin. You read that right (smiles). My back had no pain at all, it was only in my groin area. It sounds like you are having a similar experience. Just in a different area.
The only thing I can think of to try is to stay off of your feet for a while and see if that helps. Prop them up on the couch or relax on a recliner with a bowl of chocolate ice-cream in hand.
If you are going to relax, you have to do it right.. ha ha

May want to check out my profile BC my AVM in leg goes from back through uterus hip, buttock, to foot & it involves sciatic nerve. I have no other diagnoses (dx), but do have clotting. Drs say I’m a zebra even among AVM pts BC stuff is odd re my presentations. My mom wrote a book due to presentations. I still wonder if it will ever stabilize. I work, but do miss often due to what becomes extreme pain when it is cold or rainy. Also impacted by pressure on avm.
