My CCM Went Under The Laser!

Hello! I had posted a lot in this past year about my CCM diagnosis and my laser ablation surgery (LITT) that happened on the 12th. I wanted to give some updates and give people the opportunity to ask any questions about it!

I was treated by Dr. Laxpati here at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA. My experience was better than I could have hoped. The day started very early at around 4:30 AM. I was taken back and prepped very quickly. I had a large IV implanted and an MRI. I was then knocked out for about 8.5 hours. It’s definitely not the great sleep everyone said it would be, but not as scary as my mind had made up. I stayed at Emory for 2 more nights, sleeping most of it and trying to eat what little I could stomach. I have 4 scabs on my forehead and temples where my head was held in place and stitches on the back of my head where the probe was inserted. Honestly, the most sore spots are still my arms from the IVs. Since coming home, things have been really well. It has definitely taken some time to get my energy back up, and even just watching a movie can take a lot of mental energy. And the best news: no seizures!! For me, that is so big, and I am hoping things stay that way!

Browsing these forums and discussions and having even small bits of support from this community has helped me so much in this past year. Hopefully, I can continue to help support others here, and my story can help those who may be going through similar circumstances.

Thanks so much for the update, my fingers are crossed on the seizures! I hope all continues well, and thanks so much for sticking with us, we all have experiences that help many in ways we don’t even know! Take Care, John.
