Hi, i’m new to the group so wanted to say hi, and to say how your network helped me in the run up to my first gamma knife procedure. Thank you to all. I was an amputee from 1 year then at 53 had a haemoraghic stroke, out of the blue, whilst on a zoom meet with students from the National School of Film and TV in the UK. Totally unexpected. But i was raised by a very pragmatic father who always said don’t waste time feeling sorry for yourself, take a step forward. I’m super grateful he was like that. Best dad ever. I now hope you will indulge me with a question. I had my gamma knife treatment last Thursday and can’t feel it when i touch my head. Is that normal? Much love to you all.
Welcome to our group!
I have had the Gamma Knife three times since 2007. I think I had some numbness in my skull afterwards. My head is still very sensitive to touch, and the holes from the screws often get sore if I’m stressed, overtired, the weather is bad, etc. I hope your head starts to feel better soon!

Thank you so much Hermione711! It’s really great to know it’s not unusual. I’m sorry to hear about your headaches, they sound awful. I hope they settle soon. x
I had my first Gamma Knife treatment just over a month ago and I still have numbness on the very top of my scalp. I think the feeling is slowly coming back, though- it’s hard to judge precisely but I think the size of the numb area is receding.
I also have occasional soreness at my craniotomy site, and I think there may have been a slight change in shape recently (small circular dip) but I have a bit of an irrational aversion to touching it, so I’m not entirely certain. In any case I am speaking to my neurisurgeon on Friday so I’ll raise both issues then and let you know if they have any pointers!
Update- I mentioned numbness in my skull away from the frame pin sites and I was told it’s nothing unusual- just the resilt of a large dose of anaesthetic in a part of the body where there is very little soft tissue for it to disperse into. I am six weeks post-surgery and the numb area has gradually shrunk to a very small patch on my scalp. I expect it’ll be completely gone within a few days!
My numbness and pain is also in areas other than where the pins were. Usually the top of the back of my skull on the right has the most pain.
