I was 50. I started having "real" symptoms of something going on that I knew was not my imagination. No bleeds. No treatment yet. Just found out November of 2014. Not sure what I'm waiting for, knowledge and answers and $.
I was 35 yrs old when my AVM hemorrhaged Sheila
Inspiring! I can’t wait to read your book.
54 years old, found by accident in March 2025.. no recognizable symptoms.. decided on craniotomy - had in August 2025, no risk factors but had 2 minor and 1 major stroke during follow up Angiogram and right side affected. I struggle more bc I have always been right-handed. Working on therapies and hoping to go back to work January 5. I hope I get to return. I get mad at my body for not cooperating bc my brain works just fine
Glad I found you all but wish I had found you before surgery - 33 years as Medical Assistant and never heard of AVM!!! Needless to say, I was blown away. I am very thankful to be here to tell my story.
Not sure when it started. Maybe 6? I had my first surgery for varicose veins but the pain was still there (because it wasn’t what was going on
). In foot. Had sclerotherapy when 13 and then again at 15
I had my avm rupture when i was 3 years old. I have a scare on my head in shape of a backwards S. My mother says i died for a short time which caused me to fall off my tricycle. They did CPR on me. My avm was located in the occipital part of the brain which would have affected eyesight The surgery was performed at Dallas Methodist hospital in 1983 by Dr. Ostrow was the neurosurgeons. I don’t have any side effects from it. The doctors did a great job. Im now 45 years old.
