I had my AVM when I was ten years old. It was an emergency brain surgery on the optic nerve and I lost some of my peripheral vision and some other visual and memory difficulties. I once had a counselor in high school ask me if I liked my life before or after the surgery. I thought (and still think) that was the strangest question ever since an experience that big changes you forever.
It took me years to accept that there was no such thing as “normal” and in fact being different and my experience makes me who I am. Looking at all your posts on here has truly inspired me. I’m in the process of writing a book about my AVM experience and how it has affected my life, as well as how understanding from others has positively impacted my life.
I’m looking to add to my story by having other AVM survivors share their stories as well. We all have experienced the same trauma in a different way and think it needs to be shared with the world.
