Doctors in New York?

Hello Everyone! I hope all is well with all…

I was just wondering if there are any AVM doctors in New York that people have dealt with that are good and think that they’de be worth speaking too…Although I’m having my surgery in Boston with Dr.Mulliken and I trust him very much, I thought I’de get a second opinion with someone local…

Christine

I got a second opinion from Dr. PHilip Meyers at Columbia Presbyterian. I liked him very much. They have an AVM Treatment Center there, but they do not offer the proton beam. If this proton beam treatment I had doesn’t produce any results by next January, I think I will go back to Dr. Meyers.

My son had Dr. Abrahms from the Brain and Spine surgeons of New York. They are located in White Plains. When it came to Ryans AVM removal he consulted with his colleagues to come up with a decision on how best to handle it. They seem to work as a team there.

columbia presbyterian hospital in manhattan in n.y.c. dr john-pile spellman is the top man there!! you wont go wrong!!

ps i went to mass general as well as columbia pres. however as connie said dr meyers is excellent as well dr spellman!

Has anyone ever heard of a doctor Wayner in NY?

I had Dr.E.Sander Connelly at Columbia Presbyterian. He did my craniotomy in nov.2002, I owe my life to him & his team, they are fantastic.

Dr. David Gordon and Dr. David Kauffman were the doctors who saved my life and eventually remvoved my whole avm. They are rather incredible. They work out of Montifiore Hospital. Good luck

Christine- Yes Dr. Waner and Dr. Berenstein in NY specialize in surgical removal of extremity AVM’s. Dr. Waner is the surgeon and Dr. B does the embo’s before surgery. Dr Waner used to be in Arkansas and is pretty famous. Have you seen the “Baby Kristin” special on TLC? And another guy I forget his name but had a gigantic malformation of somekind on his face that Dr. Waner treated in a documentary as well.

Louisa and Cathy both are seen by these docs and should be able to give you some insight. In general though Dr. Waner is really considered THE expert when it comes to surgical removal of these.

Hope that helps!!!

Thanks Shalon! Yes it helps very much-I’ve been in contact with Keith[from your site] via facebook and he’s told me the same thing!

Hey Christine,
Good luck with the surgery. I’ll be thinking of you.
All the best,
Mindy.

Hey Christine! I see Dr. Berenstein and love him. Although my AVM is contained in the brain. Excellent team in St. Lukes Roosevelt and I can’t wait to see them in June 2009

Hi Christine…sorry to answer so late…My doctor is Rafael Ortiz. He is part of the group with Dr. Berenstein. Berenstein is one of the best! He’s at the Hyman-Newman Institute for Neurology & Neurosurgery at Roosevelt Hospital (St. Lukes). He has saved my life and I trust him with it!
